 From a size 12 to a size 6
« Thread Started on Sept 7, 2009, 1:49pm »

I'm almost to my health anniversary, and really pleased to say that although I haven't quite reached my goal, I'm only 10lbs from it. I'm in no particular rush to go dashing down the last 10, so I'll get there in my own time.

Last year I decided to go about it from the inside out, doing an overall detox first. And I tackled diet... no more chemicals I decided. My kidney's struggle enough as it is, they don't need the extra challenge of processing the things that go into crisps, etc.

And exercise as well. I found exercises that I love doing and keep them up daily.

As a result, I've gone from size 12 US jeans (and those were very tight, but I was staunchly refusing to go up a size) down to a size 6. Truth be told, the manufacturers here are fibbing on that size 6. I've an old pair of size 8s and that's what I am... so they've been 'kind' and altered the label. ::)

I will say, without the weight loss, I would have seriously struggled to properly care for Oogway this year. My kidneys still give me fits, but at least my knees and back have that weight off them. It feels so much better!!! [image]

Well done Debbie! That makes you around size 10 in UK sizing, which is pretty fantastic! Can I be cheeky and ask what you weigh now?

Sigh - my weight has crept up since Steve moved in and I've been cooking "proper" meals. To be honest, I've pigged out and eaten more than I need....and I'm sure contentment has something to do with it (that and HRT LOL).

I went back to Weightwatchers this week so am hoping that a bit of discipline will do the trick.

Wow that's great Debbie! Well done :). Like Sue I've put on weight from last year but despite me trying to cut down and upping my exercise greatly I just seem to put more on! [image] I've been riding and cycling (when weather permits) about 12-13 miles including hills, but I haven't shifted one ounce >:(.

I think that going through the menopause is definitely affecting my metabolism but I can't eat any less otherwise I'll be starving :P

I'm finding the same Gill. In fact I've done the reverse of Debbie and gone from a 10 to 14 in some clothes. :o

From all I've heard of menopause, I'm glad I started getting my weight down now. :o Its a real balancing act with eating enough to ensure you aren't starving, but not so much that you gain the weight. :-/

Not cheeky at all, Sue. I haven't weighed myself in a couple of weeks. Norty of me, but I've been using my jeans as a gauge. So long as they weren't tight, I've been forgetting to weigh in.

Right, I was 131lbs this morning with 31% bodyfat. The weight I'm aiming for is 122lb which is what I'd stayed at for most of my college years. When Eldon and I got together, the insidious weight began. >:(

I think you're right, I think a lot of it has to do with contentment, but what I was eating back then was practically nothing and getting a decent amount of exercise. [image] Maybe it was my age or something. I do know it started very slowly with the weight creep and then became alarming in my 30s.

Its nothing exciting that I've done, just the usual clean diet, trying for whole foods instead of chemicals. I've found exercise that works for me and my body, and really betwixt the two that's been what's done it. Slowly but surely. [image]

Congratulations Debbie! I am soooo glad that you have done this without dieting as such. I HATE diets! Dieting makes you fat! If only more people would look to losing weight more slowly and effectively.

[image] [image] Thanks you lot!! Its really so much nicer to have people to celebrate with. [image] Its jolly hard work, especially when its something that's nostalgic or tempting, but then I remember how sick it makes me feel after eating it. I've had a few cheats over the year, but they make me feel awful, so not worth the cheating.

I weighed in the other day just to get a baseline and I've finally budged on my bodyfat percentage ~ whoohoo!! I didn't think that would ever move ::)

I totally agree Linda, the diet word is out the window. Really its a way of life, the total approach that's needed. :)
