 COPD?
« Thread Started on Oct 29, 2009, 5:25pm »

Hi, just wonderin... Does anyone have any experience of copd with their horses? Magic hasn't had a very good summer and I haven't been able to do much with her at all. I went through all the usual things like rest, equine dentist, saddle checks etc and asked farrier to check her feet.
As she is a v good doer (what Dales isn't!) she has been on restricted grazing and I thought her lethargy/reluctance to work may be feed related. She gets a small amount of Hi fi lite so I can give her her cortaflex and vitamins. I even changed vits to a tonic with Iron in it.
I called the vet out as she seems so low and he said her breathing was quite laboured even tho she was just standing in the stable. He suggested COPD and told me not to feed any hay (and no haylage do to her weight)
She is on ventipulmin for 10 days then I have to phone vet again.
I feel terrible and don't understand how she has it because she lives out 24/365 .
Sorry for wittering on a bit and thanks in anticipation.
Ps forgot to mention, there is no coughing/runny nose etc and the other pony is absolutely fine.
