I just rang to book me and Doris (if she's fit) and Nic and Aster in for this event on Sunday 24th September. The lady told me we were the only Dales entered!!! Anyone else fancy it?? It is on Sunday 24th September 2006 at Hexham, west of Newcastle upon Tyne. There is a dressage test, cross country and jumping i.e. a mini one day event. This is the link for the details: www.fellponysociety.org/UK_Area_Groups/Northeast/2006.PerformanceTrials.htm

Alison, you should have an excellent day out, apparently last year was brilliant. It's a shame I live so far away...sigh!
Good Luck the DALES BRIGADE

Alison
I had thought that Megz and I might try it, as it's open to all native ponies and not just Fells, but to be honest in the end I decided I couldn't cope with driving that distance there and back in a day plus competing, and didn't really want to stay over up there.
Will think about it a little more though...... Any idea when the closing date is?
I know Steve and Julia went along last year, and it was they who recommended it as a really encouraging competition to enter, suitable for literally all levels. Wish it was a lot nearer though!

Sarah, yes it is a long way - we're going saturday afternoon, stabling overnight to be ready for sunday. Wish it was nearer but would rather travel to this than go to something less 'supportive for novices' closer to home! Think the closing date is 11th September, but late entries by telephone may be accepted Gina - thanks for the good wishes - I think i will need it..........

That sounds like a fantastic day. What a shame it is quite a distance! AI bet D would have a ball! Dont think the pilot would be too sure mind! LOL I can cope with the dressage - its the feet leaving the ground that stresses me out!

Nic is looking forward to it. Neither she nor Ater has done much jumping, but we are thinking Aster will love this as it will be so different for her and great fun.
Wish a few more of you were going to give it a go.
I have to take a good book and wait!

Its a shame that they don't accept "true to type" unregistered ponies. I can understand why though - when we went to a local competition we were competing with part-bred native ponies that were more TB type and well over 14.2hh! Not that we'd ever come anywhere anyhow- given James' sense of humour - but a level playing field would be a nice start.

We would have gone if we'd had transport but we'll be there to watch and pics! It looked brilliant last year and the jumps go from teeny to a bit bigger - so no worries there. the cross country course is big - not the jumps you can choose which ones you do but the distance is quite a way. Too far for me to run with Steve LOL!

I wonder if I will ever be brave enough to do one of these? It sounds brilliant.

I went to watch this just before it was opened up to non-Fells and it was a great event. Very supportive and friendly - if I was braver then I would love to take a pony to it (and I would travel down from Scotland for it!) As it is, I am only happy jumping titchy jumps when no-one is watching.

I am hoping Doris is going to be fine as well, but if not you will have to borrow Diana! She can jump......when she feels like it! ;D

Come on you lot, we could do with a few more Dales ponies to enter!
Julia and Steve, maybe this will be the opportunity for us to meet at last, we keep missing each other don't we?
