Thanks all. I'll try to get some pics at the weekend - she's much greyer on her face now, her blaze goes right down her cheeks!
She doesn't get much physical love and attention as she shys away from it, but she has peace and quiet, her shed, her friend Monty, plenty to eat and nobody bothers her, so she is pretty happy.
She is still difficult to catch, I have to get her into a small field or large pen and get her there. I think she has been thrashed in the past, plus not seeing very well I think she sometimes gets a fright when she suddenly realises you are there. She can see long distance, but not close up. Perhaps I should get her some granny glasses!! Even when you have caught her she doesn't like being fussed over. She tolerates having her mane untangled and being brushed but constantly moves away from you, so I tend to just leave her alone as that's what she's happiest with. She gets a quick once over when the farrier comes - I have to stand on the other side of her to prop her up or she falls over when he lifts her feet LOL!
She winnies and nickers at you when you go to see her, and takes carrots/apples from your hand which is a HUGE improvement on when she first came to me. My parents-in-law take her all the veg peelings and bread crusts every day.
She can just live on until she doesn't want to any more. I hope I know when that time comes. My wish is that she will go to sleep in the sun and forget to wake up, but how often does that happen? I would hate for her to be sick or in pain, or injured after such a long life but we'll just have to see. For now she is dancing and that is as much as I ask for.

That's lovely, Jane. Jenny and Winnie seem to have a lot in common. Old Winnie doesn't go in for lots of attention either. He wickers for his food but doesn't want to be groomed or touched at all so he also just gets a once over when the trimmer comes. He is easy to catch though but soon lets you know when he's had enough. I'm sure this is down to their difficult past.
I also hope and prey I'll know when the time is right to call it a day or, better still, he goes to sleep in the sun.........
