Are male horses more prone to sarcoids than mares? I'm just wondering, as when I think about all the cases I have known (friends horses and when I was a Vet Surgery Manager) were either geldings or stallions? ...has your vet said anything along these lines? Looks like Dan is doing well. Fingers crossed they all go

My grey mare Emma had a couple of sarcoids but I can't think of any other mares I know with them.

il post more pics as the weeks go on
if you want to pm me about anything few free and dont worry about getting them done

People are often scared of something they know little about and it is a fact that flies can spread the virus that can cause some sarcoids to develop. Maybe that is why people are a bit wary of being in the same field. Still, as you say, it is hurtful. Your pics look like Malki's sarcoids.
Fingers crossed everything will heal up nicely and people will be more careful of what they say in future.

Looks like Dan is doing well. Fingers crossed they all go That's an interesting point. I did a quick add up of all the Sarcoid horses I've worked with and at the moment it's 13 mares and 18 geldings so more males but certainly not a big difference. I use essential oil therapy and most of my clients are either trying something less invasive before the last resort of the Liverpool cream or have had the cream and the Sarcoids have come back but of those who were suitable, the cream is a very effective treament as long as you have a horse who tolerates it. In my experience it is not a good option for any horse who is flighty, sensitive or has issues of trust with humans! The main problem I find people complain about is the time it takes for the wound to heal, especially in summer where there are flies about. I think that what upsets most people is the ammount of damage the cream does initially when destroying the Sarcoid tissue and this makes them feel guilty. You have to treat each horses on a case by case basis though and in the end it is the vet who as the final say. Glad to hear things are going well for you and Dan

the vet is coming again today to see how dan is doing..
the ones on his back legs are doing fine and are very dry and one has dropped off
the big one on the front is half off but is all septic between the scab and his skin.
il be pleased to hear what the vet has to say,
il also take more photos of his progress
