Use a crupper or breeching, if she has a forward girth groove ALL saddles will move forward.
I use a breeching for Endurance competitions with my Free 'n' Easy saddle.

Is it possible for your saddler to reposition the girthing on your WOW at all?
See, this is the very reason I'd love for a new design to be created. One that recognizes some ponies have a very forward girth groove, and that this will pull the saddle out of place.

Tilly has got the WOW saddle, with the H shaped girth, which stops the saddle moving anywhere. I have a problem with my gang, who all have a very forward girth groove.
I am not keen on the Torsion, Heather, though Rick likes it. I ride in the Trekker treeless, which I really like. I would like to try a Freeform though.

If anyone wants to try my Freeform, I can bring it to the Performance show. Sorry that I can't lend it out for a while but it's the only saddle I have! LOL

Heather, I only got the Trekker for Molly as a stop gap when she outgrew her Thoroughgood. I had never had a treeless saddle before, and to be honest Molly likes it and so do I. I have the special pad to use underneath it, and the saddle itself is well padded - a lot more so than the Torsion. You can take out the padding in the pommel if necessary, although I haven't.
Although heavier people than me have ridden Molly in the Trekker, this has not been on a regular basis, so mainly its just me in the saddle. As you know, we go up and down a lot of steep hills, and rough moorland, and other saddles do tend to slip forward with all this upping and downing, but the Trekker has not moved once, and Molly has never had a problem with it.
If I thought I could manage without the saddle for a few weeks i.e. I could use Olivers on Molly, I would certainly let you have it. Such a pity you could not have had it these past weeks while Molly was away, as its just sitting there on the saddle rack!!

Heather, I have a shaped Wow girth if you want to borrow it. I'll have to check the size of it. It's not the H shape though.

;D As light as you are, Mair, I just cannot imagine a saddle slipping anywhere from your weight.

I rode in Gill's Vogue at the weekend and I want one! Well, when I've got a pony to ride I want one anyway! I think Heather has improved and improved her saddles again. I loved the SBS but it ended up having problems. Those problems seemed to be sorted out with my Fhoenix but this Vogue, with it's extra twist is more comfortable again. D has a very forward girth groove and practically no back to fit a saddle on. She loved the treeless saddles.
I'd be happy for you to borrow my Fhoenix but it is a dressage one and really I would recommend the GP Vogue.

My HM saddles fit all of mine! There is a loan option which costs about £45 for 5 days - sounds a lot but it would give you an idea of whether it would be right for you without going to the expense of buyig one to find it's not right.
I'd never ride in any other saddle now, I think the Vogue is fab. Well I do love my Barry Swain but still prefer the HMs!

I'll bring it to the Summer show for you Heather. It'll fit all of yours. I will be selling it soon - and no - I'm not trying to get you to buy it - but I would like you to post it back down to me so I can proceed with sale if it's going to be months before you come down again. I won't rush you though, have a good length of time to try it out properly over all terrains and sorts of work.

Heather
Merlin has a very forward girth groove too, and I've found that using a Barnsby Grip pad combined with a specially made girth means I've had no problems. The Grip pads are expensive - I would never have paid that initially but I won the first one and was so impressed i bought another. I would be more than happy to lend you one to see how you get on with it. The girth I use is a conventional leather girth (without elastic which is why I had to go down the specially made route) with curves to allow for leg movement but an inch or two wider than is usual to help spread the pressure. It was made from my drawings by Forester saddles and was actually very reasonable - I think it cost me £50. Again I would be happy to lend it but I suspect it would go round Rose twice....

Don't get too disheartened Heather ...ok, you have tried three saddles and they were not right for Rose. But thats just how it goes, Oliver is difficult to fit a saddle to, so I know what its like .....there will be a saddle somewhere. You just have to find it!!
At least you can ride in your bareback pad, can't you, while you source some more saddles to try.
They say treeless saddles fit any pony, but thats not the case, as you have found out.
Did Rose react in a negative way to any of the three saddles, or did you not see any reaction?

Eldon and I realize even before Blossom went for backing that the girl would need custom everything in her future. Rugs, saddles, the lot. Sometimes these Dales ponies really do everything built to suit just them from the framework up. I fully understand your frustrations

Hurrah!! At last, something that seems to work! Saddles and Dales= nightmare. Harley's re-flocked and narrower (!) Wintec Wide now fits well and we did 4 hours at the weekend with no lumps or bumps for him - bonus!
