im SURE the walls of her feet will have been ripped off Im RARELY wrong and on this occaision - correct again! When i went to yard last night, walked across the field and along the way saw a sparkly silver shoe when checking her foot, YES the sides of her feet where the nails "should" be are missing - my hand is bigger than the hoof left

Oh No , sometimes it would be nice to be wrong. If Sian were mine I'd be very tempted to try barefoot and see how she goes, it might not be any worse than all this trouble

I'd give it a try. You can always go back to shoes if it doesn't work out. I went barefoot with Harvey 3 years ago because I got fed up of him losing a shoe in the deep mud. Had no problems at all although, fortunately, he does have good feet.

Poor Feet My Fell has poor feet and I have tried every supplement on the market but now I think I have found one that actually does work. He's been on it since October 07 and has remained sound and his shoes have stayed on since approx. December 07. Prior to this he had been on supplements for over 10 years with none of them really working. I get it from Pool House Vets via the internet and its good value

Poor Feet My Fell has poor feet I get it from Pool House Vets via the internet and its good value I have a Fell too but thankfully he has FAB feet which to me rules out any food/vitamin deficiancy connection as BOTH mine have the same food; one has good feet (Barefoot) & the one with shoes has rubbish feet - this points to bad shoeing to me Are you a member of Fell Pony Fans? Its great over there, really friendly and helpful

im interested to see how you get on....we have 2 barefoot ponies,1 fellx and a dales neither have any probs....my cloured has rubbish feet, slightly better this year tho with it being so wet, when it gets dry july/august her feet fall to bits and she usually looses a shoe....more foot breaks off we have difficulty getting another shoe on,and round it goes not for long usually a couple of months,we have had her on supliments, they didnt work and now she doesnt have any and is no worse.....then theres merlin!!! highland very weighty with poor feet,he too has been on equimins for 2 years with not much success, yes they look greta all winter, spring and autunm and fall to bits in summer,he suffers very badley without his shoes and last year had about 6 weeks without a shoe waiting for his foot to grow...he had to have boa boots which were great except a little too wide,so as he felt so good he jumped the wall into the field with the others and tore a ligament!!!...they just arent the best shape for him,but i do think they are good boots (she has them for sale ) and is now planning to buy some old macs for him, they seem a better shape for his feet,as an emergency wear when his shoes come off..he is on another suppliment now (cant remember the name) but it will be another 12 months till we know if its worked...my farrier says it is simply the changing daily wet-dry conditions and the hoof constantly expanding then contracting that causes the weakness......i think barefoot is definately the way to go,but you need i would say a whole winter off on the soft field ground etc before they are happy in their feet, and as ours are ridden regularly winter and summer alike its not an option....i would love for them both to have the winter off to do it,but then again they are both fat and ned excercising...you go round in circles dont you!!!! keep us posted on what happens

then theres merlin!!! ...you go round in circles dont you!!! I was only thinking about Merlin the other day as i know we both started on Hoof Mender the same time, ive been racking my brain as to who had him and if they were on here, AND HERE YOU ARE Ive now actually decided to get a second opinion and have a different farrier shoe her next time, then my decision to go Barefoot or not will be dependant upon what he says SO thhe waiting game continues
