hiya if you do end up using Flamazine then you will which softens the scabs then your vet will also prob sell you Fucidin which is to actually heal the skin. Both creams will end up costing you approx £30 each!!!!! so beware. I too have had really good results from camrosa cream, it seems to be good for allsorts, but then again Ive found Sudocrem is also fantastic on my dales for anything skin related! hope this helps.

Hi Everyone, Well we're still getting through industrial quantities of DEET, but things are looking much better thanks. Her udder is now completely clear, but we're carrying on with the Nettex Stop Itch (fab products!!) to stop it all coming back. She's still getting the occasional big sore but it's not too bad and she doesn't seem overly bothered by them. So I'm treating them as they appear and trying not to worry too much Thanks for asking Olivia

Poor Tilly, I hope she is ok now. I used to put a thick layer of sudocreme on Bobs' sheath as he got bitten very badly and this seemed to work a treat, flies couldnt get near his skin to bite.......he did look a bit of a bugger going out with a white sheath though. Just thought it might be a cheaper option for the worst areas.

Glad to hear it hasn't got much worse Olivia...Bev's suggestion sounds a good idea too.

It must be Shropshire flies, because Pride is suffering exactly the same with an even worse rash than that and infected bites all over her again. Don't waste your money on fly spray as i have not found any that actually works and the more build up of spray you get on the greasier the coat becomes and the more the flies seem to like it. I am having success though if I shampoo her with dog flea shampoo, particularly tea tree and then I spray her with really diluted dettol (the old brown type not the new green coloured one) the flies don't even come near her for at least 12 hours and she has also stopped rubbing her tail. Its definitely worth a go and its cheap if it works for you. My cob gelding gets garlic tablets and never gets bitten but Pride won't eat garlic.
The vet told me not to apply any type of cream as it opens the skins pores and makes it easier for midges to get a good feed.
If the skin is really sore, you can get this lavender and eucalyptus spray that has a really cooling effect I use this after I ride her as when she sweats up I think it really stings her rash.
Good Luck
