hello Im back, just incaseanyone out there is interested...Anyway. Sultans bucking problem has taken me on a bit of a journey this summer. The suggestiona given here by people were very helpful and got me thinking in the right direction. So, his back was causing him some discomfort and he is stiff in his right hind, but his saddle is fine and his front end good also. This is probably down to having started having EMRT over the summer, and he still is getting treatments. Also I just had a dressage lesson today and worryingly he started of lame on his right hind but after a few minutes was actually completely fine once hed warmed up. So Im glad Ive found the cause, its discomfort, caused by lack of fitness, now I need to work at walk and trot, build up slowly to a level of fitmness and balance for him to start cantering...Its good to know that hes not in serious pain and it can be dealt with through steady work. thanks Lisa

Good to see you back. That's very good news about Sultan. At least you know the problem is solvable and not serious.

thanks harveydales, I do feel so much better, a weight off my mind! I have decided to put sultan up for long term loan though as its clear he really does need lots of steady work and schooling to help keep him sound and I dont have the time he needs. So rather than let a lovely talented 10 year old dales/freisian go to waste in my fields Id love to hear from anyone who might be interested. If anyone pms me Ill send you more info.

Just a longshot thought, but do you have any riding schools nearby that you would trust to maybe place him as a riding type horse?? I don't mean fling him out, never to follow up, but in the right situation, a riding school could have him on loan, he'd be getting his exercise and being useful and you could still keep close tabs on him without letting him go. I think Leannwithconnie and SuzieP both have their ponies as working liveries ...think that's the right term?... so it can be done, you just need to find the right stables/instructor so your boy would be suitably matched to riders. And so he wouldn't be getting overworked.

Hi, sorry if this is boring now but he is no longer bucking! Im riding him more, tried sending him to a riding stables but it didnt work out. So Im just doing it myself, and since he came back from the stables(after four days) his attitude has changed, he is also on herbs and devils claw for his stiffness which seems to be having a good effect. Im so pleased with him. Ive been working on improving my seat and aids, having lessons, its coming together! Oh yes and Ive been giving him and myself animal essences one of which is called wild horse, which really seem to have helped him, Ive not come across them before but a freind who uses them mixed some up for me. this seems to have helped him move through whatever was blocking him emotionally and help free him up phsically. I do think that horses are like us, we store emotional stress in our bodies if we cant find an outlet for it up and this can cause us aches and pains, horses do to. Does anyone have experience of this? I would like to find a home for him next year, as ive a new challenge ahead, as well as training to become a natural hoof trimmer Ive taken on a friends horse as a project! Life is too short!
