I've never actually tried these, must have tried almost every other kind of bean though! What are they like, and anyone got any recipes for them? Dave has grown loads ;D I've read in some recipes that you have to 'double pod' them, meaning not only shelling them but also peeling each individual bean . Is that really necessary - seems like a pain to me!

You don't have to - they are fine just shelling. We love them - boil and then chop cooked bacon up and put in, is nice. Also, there is a Spanish delicacy called Habas Fritas - you slice the beans in half and deep fry them like chips and then season them. They are like crisps but lower in fat.

Loads you can do with them. You only need to double shell them if they are very large and past their best when the seed covering gets a bit tough. Baby ones are delicious just on their own. Great in salads, with pasta etc etc
