I have found the Thorowgood T4 a good, comfy saddle and it has helped my hips and seems a good fit on native types.
I have always hated the earlier HM treeless saddles, but the vogue is a very good saddle. My back and hip issues cause me significant problems and I'm on long term medication, but the vogue is super comfy to ride in.

I too, cannot advise on a saddler - however, i will say, consider a working hunter cut saddle. I bought Dancer a GP saddle at about the same age as your pony - and wished a couple of years down the line I had bought a straight cut saddle to release all that lovely shoulder action these guys are renowned for! At 5, his shoulders wern't as substantial, but a couple of years later and the saddle started to hinder the action. I ended up trading in my GP an buying a WH instead - you can get them with a slight knee padding - and i have never yet not been able to get my seat secure in this one. Mine is an Ideal Ramsey Show Saddle www.idealsaddle.com/catalogue/saddle/25My best purchase yet! I have just bought one of this for Dylan my cob and its absolutly beautiful. I feel really secure and comfortable in it plus its open his shoulders up even more. I love it and defiantly echo the recommendation!

Does anyone have any slipping issues with the fhoenix or vogue? Iv just got rid of my thorowgood and tried nearly every other blurdi saddle going on my two and i always get issues with them rolling.

The only slipping issues I've ever had with the HM saddles have been mounting from the ground, but providing the girth is done up tight enough it shouldn't be a problem. I've sat all manner of spooks and acrobatics and even had Cherry fall over on me but the saddle hasn't moved!!!! ;D

I'll just say one thing - Professional Choice girths! Worked on my rotund mare a treat!

I just wanted to add my new saddle recommendation! I have had the saddle fitter out at long last and i wish i had done it years ago. Iv now got an ideal h & c working hunter saddle. It is amazing, it fits her like a glove, never moves and she is not easy to fit saddles to. Iv tried wintecs, thorowgoods, some treeless (not HM) and now iv ridden in my new one i cant believe i ever rode in them, although i do appreciate they do fit some horses. Its straighter cut which is great for her shoulders and i just love it! Im so glad i got the fitter out. £45 for fitting, £475 for my saddle and i think of all the money iv wasted on saddles in the past! Also i have recently purchased a John Whitaker pressure girth which is the best girth iv ever used, she loves it and my saddle fitter said its perfect for her as its wider so helps keep the saddle in place, so i did buy one thing that works!

Helen, she has always been at home I will never ever let any of my ponies stay away without me. Unfortunately she went lame whilst being an idiot in the field on Sat so she is in and not working. When she is sound will take a photo though!

Sorry Barbara - thought she'd gone away for "breaking". Shame she's out of action anyway

Well I have done it I tried the vogue gps yesterday and I liked it, I felt a bit strange at first but I liked the position it put you in, (mind you I am aching today) Emma came and fitted it and gave me a lesson I really enjoyed it. So I have put an order in for one with a suede seat, I cant decide on what colour saddle cloth to get. So thank you for all your advice.

I saw 2 interesting saddles at YH Live - the WOW treed which was really comfortable especially the deep seated one. Very tempting but £1700! Also a Quantum saddle which seemed very interesting as the contact points with the horse/pony had been very well designed and the rider's seat placed on top (don't know any technical terms). It was very comfortable but nearly £3000! We did ask if you could change the rider's saddle at will ie GP, Jumping or Dressage but keep the underneath bit. Hmmm not likely I think!
Back to real life, Blue has a Thorowgood T6 leather saddle which fits him really well (and my bum). I'm glad I bought it as it has an interchangeable gullet which we have now changed 3 times in a year since he has lost nearly 100 kg through doing regular work and pulling his belly in (heehee).
I have tried an Isabell Werth on him and it fitted really well and his shoulders are totally freed up so I like them very much.
