''I have been telephoned by Sussex Police as I have many contacts in the horse world.
Several people have notified Sussex Police in the last few days saying that they have noticed that their horse has had a plait put in its tail, the instances so far have mainly been in the Rother & Wealden areas. What this usually indicates is that this horse has been marked for stealing. Basically a prospective buyer enquires for a such and such type and colour of horse, the dealer then says that they can get one of those. A search of the countryside takes place in daylight, when a likely horse has been found it has a plait put in its tail. A few days later the horse is stolen.
If any horse is found to have a plait in its tail (sometimes its mane) please call the Sussex Police non emergency number 0845 60 70 999 and give them the details, tell the operator that these details must be passed onto PCSO Daryl Holter at Battle Police Station who is the Horse and wild animal welfare officer.
PLEASE PASS THIS INFOMATION ONTO ALL HORSE OWNERS AND YARD OWNERS.
If you do not wish to speak to the police then please contact me Phillip Ball Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator at phllpball@aol.com or 01423 838881''
Obviously this is a local riding club but maybe someone in YOUR area could help..?
