We've had a spate of thefts from our area this year and three from my lane alone, where all the properties targeted do not have people living on the premises. However a mini-digger was taken and the thieves must have passed the three farmhouses opposite!
The last two thefts occurred in recent weeks, from two neighbours next to me. One neighbour had an energiser stolen and a few days after the theft a pound coin was found on top of the gatepost. The following day the gate was discovered wide open, this time nothing seems to have been stolen but it seems likely that the coin is another kind of 'marker' for the thieves - so it might pay to look out for this.

It would take a brave thief to try anything with your dogs around!

I think that is what keeps them away Sue, touch wood! We've had loads of gypsy types come round here looking for scrap metal or asking if we want trees felled etc, but they see my dogs and I haven't seen the same ones return yet!! Only one who came to collect some old gates and seemed extremely nervous of the dogs, and asked if we would keep them indoors ;D. I think if you didn't know my dogs and saw them all barking at the door, you wouldn't want to tackle them . I wouldn't be without them even if they drive me nuts at times .

I agree, your dogs are definitely a strong deterant. I wish there were an easy solution to keep them from stealing.
