Hi every one I'm just cleaning out my tack box and came across an old pair damaged reins with the rubber grips, and I thought of warning you all not to allow Hydrophane fly repellent to come in contact with rubber reins IT MELTS them. With reins costing what they do these days this can be a very costly mistake! After seeing what it did to my reins I've stopped using it on my pony as well

Oh what a shame about your reins, can you get them re-rubbered?
Does the Hydrophane repellent have DEET in it, I think that DEET has to be kept away from plastic/rubber for that reason - nasty stuff

Hydrophane has got this in it - N,N-DIETHYL-M-TOLUAMIDE + P-MENTHANE-3,8-DIOL
If that means anything to anyone?

I think that is DEET or something very similar Linda

Yes, I'm sure that's DEET. I had no idea you shouldn't use it near rubber or plastics - thanks for the tip!
