hi ive taken on a little mare and she has had lami since jan she has been shod with pads that raise the heels, from what i can get out of old owner she got better and then just after the second lot of shoeing she got slightly worse and she is now due to be done again under my care and my farrier my farrier has put the imprint shoes on her today!
she is worse he thinks its because he has had to lower the heals from being so high as she had the raised with wedge but has also grwon heel so that makes it even higher he has tryed to not do to much off but has had to take quiet a bit for foot to be right for the shoes!
so anyone gone from raised heels to imprint shoes before? im hopeing she will be more comfy in a few days have buted her and will for the next few days.
thanks

Hi and welcome to Dalesfans. This isn't something I have experience of - but I hope someone can help you.

I haven't come across it either, but understand the problems and worry of having a laminitic.
Hopefully someone else will be able to help you - and welcome to the board!

Hi and welcome to DF. Sorry to hear about your little mare - it is never easy dealing with laminitics. I've never used imprint shoes myself but the one person I know who is using them for a chronic laminitic has found them successful. As for raised heels, I guess this means the pony has foundered and has contracted tendons? I'm afraid this is something I know little about but would have thought with expert trimming the situation could be gradually eased. Glad the bute has kicked in and hope your pony continues to improve. do keep us posted with her progress.

no thats the problem she didnt have contracted tendons but that was done anyway, but she did have slight rotation in the left fore which is the worst i would say she is almost sound in the right! so now she has contartced tendons because of doing that and now has gone into a imprint shoe if that makes sense!

I see. Sounds like the imprint shoes and appropriate trimming will sort her out. Let us know how it goes.
