I submitted samples for FIS testing and got the results today. From 6 tests, 2 showed carrier status, the other 4 were clear. Bearing in mind that 3 were Bill foals (and we know he's a carrier), this was better than I expected. The other 3 are Raygill William's and all are clear. The best part about it is that both of the colts - Fin and Bucket - are clear, so hurdle number 1 on their attaining stallion status has been overcome. I didn't realise how much I cared about this until I got these results. Bucket is Maidendale Legacy, William's last foal. After siring over 100 registered Dales ponies, it would be wonderful if he had a son who could aspire to fill his (considerable) shoes. Fin is M. Finality and Bill's last foal before he was gelded. I hardly dare say this, but I think he might turn out to be as good as his dad!

I am so pleased for you Maggie. You deserve the good news about Bill's son especially. I can also report that I have my results back for six ponies, five mares and one 2yr old colt who I hope will get his licence next year and they are all clear. I didn't realise how much it meant to me either to hear the news. I have obviously been carrying more "dread" than I knew, which I suppose is natural given that three of my results were for Diana's two nieces and a nephew and one for Bill's half-sister It just goes to show how random this thing really is.

Really thrilled for you Maggie It would be lovely if Bucket gets to continue his father's considerable legacy - he'd certainly be a very happy boy! Great that you have a Bill son that is clear too Looking forward to hearing how both boys mature. We are waiting for 10 test results, so it's nice to hear that they are starting to come through.

This has brought tears to my eyes, so I can at least begin to imagine how much this mattered to you, Maggie and Penny. I'm so glad for you both and that William and Bill have colts to follow in their shoes.
Fingers well crossed for you, Julie and Helen - I hope the outcome for you is as encouraging as the others'.

Even more brilliant news!!!! I adore the fact a carrier test has been found. Now I just hope there's no stigmas placed on the carriers. Breeders must tread lightly so as not to lose the precious genepool, but I'm not saying anything new

Such good news Maggie and Penny. It must be such a big relief to you both. So lovely to hear that William and Bill have clear sons to carry on the line. Congratulations to you both. I can only hope and pray that everyone else's test results will be as good.
