Very interesting as to which saddle. I need to sell the saddle that came with him before i can afford another. Got it on ebay that is a wintec 500 changeable gullet like mine but only a 17 inch seat and mine the same is a 18inch seat so suits me better.
Think a wintec wide one cos of price and as it is wider tree.

Wintec Wide will go down to a wide gullet, so it has the 3 gullets it comes with, and also fits the red and white gullets.

I've been through a couple of saddles, started treeless in a Vogue but just couldn't get on with the width, had a Barry Swain WH but it just wasn't right and now have a Kent and Masters in the cob version with a wide gullet, we are getting on well with this although I had to put a seat saver on it to save my seatbones! ;D

I have a couple of Ideal saddles Classic (GP) and a Working Hunter. They are light and seem to fit most of our ponies. Dad has a Wintec Wide which he thinks fits anything, I find it quite uncomfortable to ride in but I know they are popular and fit Dales quite well.

I fit LM saddles, did some dales the other day, had a really good session with a variety of different ponies. Would recommend the thorowgood cob if its wide enough. The wintec wide is actually not a great fit as its not really flat enough for most dales ponies. Ensure that the gullet is at least 4 fingers width all the way along the length!!

Sorry for the late post, only just catching up after a break. I have a Wintec Wide (with Cair) on the recommendation of a local saddle fitter and have found it to be excellent. Robin is fairly chunky at around 520 kg and 14.3hh. The saddle currently has the middle sized gullet in it so there's scope to go either way, depending on whether he's gaining or losing weight. I've ridden some long rides on it, most recently being a 20 mile EGB pleasure ride and it has served both him and me well and very comfortably! Although it is an advantage being synthetic one slight drawback is that if caught in a rain shower you can feel as if you are sitting in a puddle! I also have a leather Ryder endurance saddle, bought on impulse third or fourth hand, but tend not to use it as it is very heavy and I need my HM seatbone saver to make it bearable for me. In summary, I would have no hesitation in recommending the Wintec Wide

Although on a Highland, not a Dales, I have the Thorowgood T4 Cob for english style riding and a Brazos Texas Point Western Saddle for everything else.
