Lu wants to send Oz somewhere to be broken to drive- preferably over the winter. Needs to be localish as she could also do with a few lessons- especially with him. Poor lad- he'll think what next!

Have you thought about doing it yourself? I managed to teach me and Harley to drive with some help here and there, we took a LONG time over it but got there in the end with no major hiccups on the way.

Have you tried that one from an earlier thread, strictlycarriagedriving.co.uk? They are in Pocklington near York.
I think Mrs Whelan from the DPS is an official for the BDS region, may be worth a chat to see who she recommends.
Keep us informed, Em, I need a good local instructor too.

Lu's seen that site maggie and is going to make enquiries- just wondered if anyone had any personal recommendations. jane- have thought about it but would like someone to do it properly and concentrate on driving rather than doing something once a week. Also if he goes away for a little bit we can concentrate on getting Rory going.

Lorraine Wilson and her husband (its more her husband) are very good drivers, Lorraine gave me a lesson on Annie a long while ago now and it was brilliant and I know her husband takes in horses for starting. He always has a turnout at the GYS etc and all the shows around here. Very smart. They are Kirk Merrington, nr Bishop Auckland so I'm not sure if thats too far for you ??

I know what you mean - that's why it took me so long to get Harley in shafts! I just couldn't afford to send him away though so battled on and really enjoyed it - and learnt a LOT too!
Goodl uck with your hunt, I hope you find someone to help you out. I'll have a look in my Carriage Driving magazine and see if there is anyone in there.

just make sure its the right person with alot of experience and well known, usually the more expensive the better job you get, because it only takes a little thing to upset them, i done all the ground work with my youngster, sent him away and they rushed him, he had a bad scare and accident, i can just about drive him round my school, but he is so scared i dont want to make him to it
