Yep I have, first check for visitors, lice or mites if you find lice I've found the a new product for sweet itch Z Itch is basically the same as Switch that your vet will give you works. If you feed garlic try stopping it, Prince was always very itchy when I used garlic, then i read that garlic can make them itchy so I stopped using it and Prince is not all that itchy at all now, I've also used Leovet No Rub www.rideaway.co.uk/leovet-no-rub/default.aspx helped Prince Edited to correct my spelling lol

I have a gelding who is also very itchy. We have LOTS of biting insects here in northern New England. The best remedy I have is just to use lots and lots of fly spray, the nastier it is the better it works. Is your Dales itchy just because he's itchy or are bugs bothering him?

That's interesting Zelda. My vet left me with some Switch for Harvey but I haven't used it on him because I am absolutly convinced he doesn't have sweet itch, whatever the biopsy results said. However, Lilly always rubs her tail out in the summer so I'm using it on her instead. Just one application and she stopped rubbing immediatley so maybe she had some "little friends" rather than sweet itch.

z-itch works really well. It stopped both my dales and my shettie from itching this summer.

I've just treated Cass with Deosect which kills any lice or other visitors (although the vet said she couldn't see any), and it also acts as a REALLY good fly and insect repellent. Smells like paint stripper tho'....horrible!

Oh this is interesting. Digger is really itchy this year and garlic was my prime suspect as it was the only thing that was different. I stopped it a while ago but with little effect. I bought some itch free herbs from Dodson and Horrell and gaily started adding those only to discover they contain garlic!!! I have some shampoo from the vet(coatex)and am adding chamomile but he is still itchy and has some slightly bald areas on his face. He IS moulting now so I suppose that isn't helping. He has also had injections against mites and can't see any lice. He seems a bit scaly on his sheath.Has anyone got any further advice since this thread was started?

I would suggest treating him for lice, Deosect is good but you must re apply about 14 days later.

I usually give mine a shot a Dectomax at this time of year. My fell has started stamping, which is a sure sign of mites and you can't see them. It is a couple of injections, but my vet just hands me the syringes which is much cheaper and quicker.
