Farrier measured Musks feet and they were considerably smaller than my measurement and I have ordered size 7 Easyboot Trails, they should arrive tomorrow.

Let us know how you get on with them, Mandy. Harvey is a size 10, so musky's feet are much smaller. Having said that, his size 10s are too big for him now but size 9 too small. Xx

Will do.
How clean do his feet need to be as we have mud and limited cleaning facilities up the field?

Will do. How clean do his feet need to be as we have mud and limited cleaning facilities up the field? I don't know the answer but if I'm booting I do try and wash off any mud to prevent rubbing. I rarely use boots this time of year because of the mud problem and there is no real need.

Feet need to be really clean for hoof boots otherwise they rub badly and can rotate and fly off. I hose mine off and then rub with an old towel. If they aren't too bad I put their feet in a bucket of water and rinse that way.

One week on and despite my best efforts, which included trying a soft knee-high this morning, the right foot is fine but the left heel started rubbing yesterday. He measured up the same on both feet so I ordered the same size. I'm not certain if I've been using the same boot on the same foot but I think I will mark one so I know. I think I will have to leave them off for a little while for it to fully recover, unless anyone has any suggestions? PS The knee-high isn't knee-high on a pony

I mark mine to make sure I always have them the same way round because of the wear. I agree best to leave them off for a while to give the rubbing time to ease. Gaiters are supposed to help prevent rubbing but I've never found any I can get on with. Someone recommended using those thin stocking type foot socks from Morrisons but I keep forgetting to buy some to try.

As it happened both the weather and I were grotty this morning so he stayed on the field. Yes, the knee-highs are much the same but slightly more to get hold of, which is always a bonus with himself. The farrier isn't due until Thursday week so we will try again in a few days......

Finally got a pair of Fusions from a Canadian dealer, as they have just started making them in big sizes (size 16 for us!) and they are sized just right for a round hoof. Only used them mid summer when the ground was very hard and dry and all the bf horses were a little ouchy on stone and thus far very impressed. They are super easy to put on (far easier than the Old Macs my quarter horse wore--which were like getting into really skinny jeans) and Lad had no trouble getting used to them. They (thus far) have stayed on at canter, jump and through mucky mud and water,no problem. I am pleased with them but noted that they do not have any drainage holes in the bottom, as most boots do. The squelch, squelch is notable after water immersion and they are sodden when taken off. Can't think that is very pleasant for a pony to hike in. I keep them in my saddlebag on long rides and pop them on when we are hitting very rocky terrain, and then off again when on softer ground but it would be easier just to leave them on for the whole ride, something I don't want to do if they are filled with water.
For those of you who have used these--do you think it would compromise them if I drilled holes un the tread? My farrier was taken by them as well as they are quite light but wondered if they will hold up, especially for driving.

Glad you got them to fit. I measured Harvey and in theory he should fit a size 16 but they were too small. I liked the look of them though but, as you say, I do wonder how hard wearing they will be. Not sure about putting in drainage holes though I don't see why it should hurt. My Cavello Treks have big drainage holes and even so, they can get a bit squelchy so I hate to think what the fusions must be like.

Has anybody tried the Easyboot Transitions? I think they must be new as I don't remember them when I bought Sam his easyboot trails a few years ago.
He's broken one of the trails and as I'm not overly fond of the fit (his feet are wider than long) I wondered about the transitions.

No, I think they must be fairly new. They look good but don't come big enough for Harvey
