No Harley can't have oatmeal as it is a grain.
I've heard great things about coconut oil but am not sure I could get it in large volume over here/up here - I'll have to look inot it.

For Galahad I give a large spoonful of coconut oil in the morning, and again at night if he looks like he's needing it, but it can add the weight very quickly. Its rough estimates that I tend to do (the eyeballed feed scoop, the double handful of this, spoon of that), but I'd say its roughly 1/2 cup a day that he gets of the coconut oil. I cannot believe how lovely his mane and tail are on it! He positively glows and I love how I have to watch if he's had too much. Its a relief to know I can pack the calories on safely if I really need. As for the oatmeal, that is a shame, but very understandable. This feeding up stuff is a minefield!

I'm not having a lot of luck finding a supplier close to here....but am going to Aberdeen this weekend so might visit a big feed place there and see if they can get it for me. Going on the train so I can't really lug a big bag of linseed back with me though!

Another supplier is Simple Systems, and you can get large sacks.not cheap but as you dont feed loads it does last.

I get Winnie's linseed from Charnwood's on line and it arrives within 2 days in a huge sack which lasts ages.
I regularly used Maggie's microwave method when I had TBs that needed feeding up. They loved the ectoplasm. ;D

I use Charnwood as well, I pay £31.52 for a 25kg bag inc delivery - Jane would pay £46.52 inc delivery

OOCHA! That's quite a lot...esp when he'll need knocking the door of 500g per day - remember oil and fat is his ONLY energy/calorie source.
Mind you I've just worked it out at 93p per day at that level - but then I have to add the oil on at £2 a bottle that lasts a week, and the ERS pellets at £12 a 20kg bag that last 20 days.....he's gone from extremely cheap to extremely expensive to keep at around £2 a day for hard feed only.

Jane, would you mind looking at the label and letting me know what the first listed ingredient of the ERS pellets is? I'm wondering whether you could just feed Alfalfa (pellets/alfabeet/forage) - Low sugar/low starch/high fibre/quality protein and decent Digestible Energy Again- -apologies if this has been suggested already

I've started a new thread about the ERS pellets so we don't get distracted from the linseed!!

Jane,
Don't worry too much about the weight loss so long as it doesn't continue downwards. This happened with Sigs after his metabolic blip too and Ive seen it happen in QHs who have the same condition as Harley.
Simple System will post if you order in bulk. Can Harley be fed Copra in addition to the pellets and a linseed top up?

Yes he can, again it is finding a supplier who will ship to this oh-so-remote (not!) area of Britain - you'd think I lived in the Outer Hebrides the amount of extra postage is added on!
I'll weigh tape him again this Sunday and see what's happening - don't want it to get to 10% loss!
