Harley's Latest Endurance Ride

Today Harley and I did a 22km pleasure ride - this is the first ride since I upped his oil intake to 200ml per day, plus the 12.5% in the Alfa A Oil, so he's getting a big whack of oil.

Well, what a difference to the last ride a month ago - he was active, forward, ate up the miles, even his walk was good! He had some bolshy moments, and we came down one field sideways! We did the ride at 10.23kph, with a finishing heart rate of 44, and it was a hot day too so I was absolutely over the moon with that. AND he didn't shake at all after the ride, or since we got home, and his muscles have stayed quite soft.



On the downside - he stood on my foot and then pivotted on it to see what was going on - thank goodness the ground was soft, but it's still blooming sore.

And he wanted to kill a Friesian stallion - a very beautiful Friesian stallion and VERY well behaved, but Harley thought he needed to be sorted out and displayed and huffed at him - I had to keep hiding Harley behind the box whenever it came anywhere near us, he just couldn't take his eyes of it!!

Just PMd you before seeing this post. I am thrilled for you and Harley. It must feel fantastic to have the old Harley back. It's been a long haul but it sounds like you are finally there.

lol at the Friesian! Harvey also gets excited when he sees Friesians but then they are black and hairy so I guess he thinks they are big Dales Ponies plus we regularly ride out with Friesians.

What oil are you giving Harley? I am going to experiment with Harvey by adding a little oil to his feed and see what diferenc, if any, it makes.

That is so brilliant Jane! I bet you were grinning from ear to ear in his bolshy moments, really back on form.

It's just normal veg oil Pam, from Tesco. He was getting NAFF Omega OIl, but at £20 for 5 litres, and 200ml a day.....far too expensive! He gets additional Vit E and Selenium on that level of oil too so that he can metabolise it.
