RIP YACHT

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments. Its so awful to go to the yard and not see 2 heads looking out at you. On a slightly better note Dougal is coping well without his buddy, this is thanks to vet recommending we bring Dougal up to the field to see Yachts body. I really wasn't sure about that but the vet said it would help him cope. Lisa from the yard brought him up for me, as he got closer he started snorting then went closer and sniffed Yachts body. He then started to lick him. He licked from his tail all along his back, his ears and head, then sighed and started to graze next to him. Not a dry eye anywhere. The next day he went out, called once, looked around and just carried on grazing. Normally he would be fretting at the gate and shouting like mad. Sorted all Yachts rugs out today going to give them to the Essex horse and pony protection society, feels right some how.

You waffle on for as much as you need because it is part of the healing process

I am so utterly sorry to hear this has happened to Yacht. When I was younger, I found a mare that had had her leg broken in the field from a kick as well, so I know how gutting this can be. He is so lucky you found him so quickly and could help him.

I'm glad Dougal has coped so well with the loss of his friend but I am so sorry for you both for losing such a wonderful companion

Sorry, I have only just seen this post. I am sorry for your loss. I had tears in my eyes reading about Dougal's reaction.
