Thanks every one. I'm feeling more positive about it all now. Lol Linda, I'm really looking forward to getting back to our old riding routines. Jacqui - the vet didn't mention travelling and I didn't ask but will probably still go over to Sheila's on Friday as we had planned. It was such a lovely, mild day today so I went for a little pootle with Harvey and he was fine. He even decided to take the longer route home for some strange reason. I forgot to mention that the blood sample also showed a low white blood cell count which usually indicates some sort of infection or could just be his age. He is soooo well in himself at the moment which makes this all very odd. The vet wants me to put him on an immune system booster for 3 weeks and put him back on electrolytes. I went to pick them up today and saw the chief vet who was adament that even if Harvey seems fine now he will be better still soon. Not sure I can handle a "better still Harvey"! Thanks every one for your comments and support - it really has helped and I'm not going to worry to much. I will go by my gut feelings and listen to what Harvey is telling me.

Sorry I'm late with my reply, but I can only echo the excellent advice on here. When you indicated the low white blood cell count, I was going to suggest the immune booster, but the vet's already done that I'm sure you will do what's best for Harvey, but I'm another that would give a miss to the pleasure ride, for the reasons Heather gave. LOL, Harvey sure does love his trailer rides. If you can, maybe settle into a routine of doing gentle rides where he gets trailered to the 'new and exciting place' ;D

The chief vet was reassuring wasn't he? I'm so glad you're feeling more positive now, Pam. You must have been ready to bawl when you got the test results back. Your instinct over the past months or so has been to do steady rides with Harvey and not get him excited or tired and that sounds like the way to go with him. Quality of life is the key and if Harvey enjoys being in light work, then that can only contribute to his well-being.
Once the spring comes and we're all feeling brighter and more positive I'll see if I can get Bea over for a ride with you and Harvs. There's so much Lincolnshire countryside I'd love to explore with you.
