Poor Mistermister - I have been keeping him in my thoughts Debbie. He's fighting this so hard I am sure it won't be long before he's back terrorising the various small mammals living about your house. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Sorry I haven't given any updates, that's mostly because since yesterday I haven't had any m'self. The vets have been incredibly busy. Sunny days, so of course all the animals have to have emergencies. Yesterday we finally got the results back from the cultures and am I so glad they were done. The bad news is that it is as I feared, a very highly resistant staph infection. They tested it against 26 different antibiotics and only 5 seemed to be somewhat affective against it. The good news is that the vet has 2 of the antibiotics onhand to treat Mister. It'll have to be offlabel because the antibiotics are for horses and cattle, but he feels its safe enough to use. Mister's remained willing to continue the fight even though the infection has now spread to his leg my poor boy! All of us are hopeful that he can come on leaps and bound with the new antibiotic being used. The gameplan at the moment, the vet wants to get him stabilized enough to come home for the weekend. He wants Mister to get a reprive from the hospital, recharge his batteries and then probably go back into the vet's on Monday again. Its been a very rough time for me because at the same time Mister first went into the hospital last month, so did one of my very dear friends. She passed away May 29th after the Hell Mister's been through, I SO want him to pull through this and get that infection fully cleared so he can come home again.

thanks Val My heart sank when I heard it was staph. Amanda lived with a staph infection on her chin for 10 years. The vets were never able to get it fully cleared. In fact, the only animal I've ever heard who did fully get a staph infection cleared was a horse that had had a million baths. Since this antibiotics for horses and cattle, I have a glimmer of a hope that it will chase the staph away fully. I have to keep hoping for his sake

Many thanks for the kind vibes and wishes I still haven't come fully to grips with my friend being gone, but in time, I'll adjust. Mister came home Friday with pills for 15 days and a case of rhino on top of the entire leg looking like hamburger Last night was my first time having to pill him and even though he didn't really fight (only put his foot up in protest, no claws out even), it was so horrible for the both of us. I can only hope I can get tonight's pill in okay. He's got such a sore throat from all the gas anesthesia, plus the pills plus the rhino. He's feeling miserable for himself with every good reason. I'm not as positive as the vets and assistants were about this clearing. To me it looked far worse than ever before and this morning the wound was weeping again which makes me fearful. All we can do at this point is be hopeful the meds will do what they are supposed to, and he'll move from strength to strength and mend. My heart aches for all the horrors he's had to go through
