Anyone know anything about these carriages? The chap is no longer with us, but was based in Ecton in Staffordshire and did a lot of made to measure stuff - wooden bodies, fibreglass wheels, detatchable shafts and fully adjustable.
I've seen one for sale and it's quite cheap, so am just looking for info on them.
I was also looking at Fun Bugs but they're too dear new and you can't get them second hand. Not sude how the little wheels would cope with our ruts either!!!

Ecton Carriages were based at Buxton in Derbyshire. I didn't realise they had closed. I've never owned one of their carriages myself, but I have a couple of friends who have owned 2-wheeled gigs made by Ecton for ponies ranging in size from a Welsh B to a 16hh ShireX. One of my friends still uses his gig two or three times a week (albeit in good weather) and it is still in good working condition after 15 years! I was told that the owner was a proper wheelwright .

Ah - next-door-but-one county!! Close!!!
It was the lady who owns it that told me the chap had died, but maybe the company has carried on? I've never heard of them so haven't a clue!
I got the impression he was a well known carriage builder and wheelright and the gig looks gorgeous in the pictures I've seen so far - hoping to go and see it in the next few weeks.

Ecton Carriages was the name used by Arthur Floyd who was based just outside Longnor in the Staffordshire end of the Peak District. Arthur died about 10 years ago & he was a proper wheelwright, carriage builder and horseman who was well known in BDS circles. The business was not carried on after his death.
