Just wondered what bit everyone uses for driving?
Harley has a jointed Liverpool for driving, but doesn't seem that happy with it, so I wondered about using his normal riding bit instead? It's a Tom Thumb sweet iron with copper rings, has some gag action so can be strong if it has to be. He loves it for ridden work.
Is there any reason why I can't use it for driving? I've seen scurry drivers using 'normal' bits on their ponies.

I can't see why you can't use whichever he is happiest with but am sure someone will have a better idea than me x

I use the same bit for driving as I do for riding with Rose and my carriage driving instructor does the same if that's what works for the horse.

Hi Jane, I too would go with whatever he;s happy with. Doris and Tink both have a normal liverpool bit but they are ridden in pelhams so not much different.
When doris was started driving Karen Bassett said use whatever she's happy with.

When we were bringing our cob mare Shannon back into driving last year we put her in a straight bar rubber snaffle. No problems. Whatever suits them I say x
