We lost Wilbur, our Dales gelding on Sunday morning. He would have been 4 in June. Our vet was amazing, and did everything possible for our beautiful boy on Saturday night.
So sad to lose any pony, especially a young one. Wilbur was one of my favourites - and such a laid back pony. We are gutted, and Wilbur will be especially missed by Heltondale Tommy, his best friend, who took Wilbur under his wing when he was a foal, and let him share his hay.
We had hoped that Wilbur would pull our wedding carriage next year with his full sister, Folly

Big hugs, Mair.
I'm so sorry to hear about Wilbur. I remember how excited you were knowing that Wilbur was going to be yours when he was weaned. So sad to lose any pony, but especially one so young and so loved.

I know most people hope for a filly .....but I was hoping for a colt, as we had Molly and Folly out of the same mare. Her previous foal had been a colt, so we were hopeful I would get my wish - and we did!! To lose him is devastating.
Wilbur had never been exposed to worms before, being in our closed herd. Unforunately, the new land had been a big livery yard, and being young he was not immune to worms. I wormed him 10 days ago, and it seems the migrating larvae are to blame. Really horrible, and I wish I could turn the clock back. The vet said she knows a vet who lost his two young horses this way.
At the moment I cannot look at the remaining ponies, but Folly keeps looking over the wall, and her and Wilbur were so alike-its very hard. But, these things happen with livestock, and we have to carry on.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.
