Last night I said farewell to my wonderful old Labrador Poppy, she was a rescue aged around 14.1/2 years and a wonderful friend, worker and companion. The decision was hard but she was on the verge of becoming a very poorly girl so instead she went pain free and still happy with life.

Good bye Poppy and thank you for everything, we will all miss you more than words can say but we know it was the right thing at the right time and the pain is ours not yours, I will see you always with that great bull head lifted up to enjoy the sun and smell the air, your kind nature and patience with Buddy cat and Purdey pup. Take care old girl we all owe you so much.

So sorry about Poppy. Its so hard with dogs as tend to have them many years. But, you did the brave thing to let her go while she was still happy.

Poor you. I really suffer whenever I have to have an old dog put to sleep. You definitely did the right thing - at least we can make the decision for our much loved pets (unlike much loved elderly relations).

One quote I always recall at times like this is from Rudyard Kipling:

"Brother and sister, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear".
