I'm totally confused!I've entered an in hand M and M class followed by ridden m and m class. For the in hand do I use a bridle, halter or what. I'd prefer bridle as phoebe can be a little strong. But I use a Pelham to ride her in. So how can I attach a lead rope to a Pelham? Phoebe is 10ish and it is a low key local show, but I'd like to be correct as I can. And can I do the in hand class in jods and long boots?

Just show her in your ridden bridle and take the reins over her head and use them no need to attach any rope!

Thanks Anna, just to confirm, I take both sets of reins over her head and lead with those? - I don't use surroundings.

yes both reins over her head, I always undo the centre buckles as well, but that may just be me.

Yeah both reins but I'm the opposite to mum (jap) and wouldn't undo the buckles because I'm lazy.

So we went to the show, did our in hand class in bridle and posh in hand rein my friend lent me. And we came fifth we then did our ridden class and came fifth again! Phoebe did so well, perfect in the ridden class catered beautifully. We were in a class dominated by rather over-weight highlands and the judge called phoebe a fell!! We then did prettiest mare and got second! I love my pony

Hi she's 14:2, however she does look smaller in that photo for some reason.

Congratulations. Loving your girlie and having fun are the two most important aspects of pony owning in my opinion. If you do any more showing you might want to have a look at the thread on doing tail ribbons as they help judges decide whether you have a fell or a Dales. They're also pretty to do

Hi, the frustrating thing is that we did have ribbons In so it is even more concerning that she was taken for a fell! Here's another photo of her after the prettiest mare class (she wasn't plaited for the m and m classes). Thanks Lesley for showing me how.

She really is a very pretty girl Your judge is obviously in need of a refresher course. I don't show any more but when I did I found it mattered very little what equipment I used as judges are a law unto themselves in most cases. I used a white rope halter on my young Dales filly and was told I needed to use a white webbing one with a chain over her nose like all the Welsh Ds and Arabs had. When using a bridle I've been told I should use a halter. Every judge has their own preferences. most of the serious showing people that I know keep a list of the judges and write next to the name what that judge prefers, they might also make a note if they realise it's never worth showing their breed or particular type in front of a particular judge.
