I want to decorate this horseshoe to give to Paul and Beth on their wedding day, I don't know whether to paint it then put ribbons /flowers one or just to cover it in ribbon, I also want to attach a ribbon so it will hang up and it needs to be elegant not my usaul hippy dippy style lol

Might be nice with some small flowers and ribbons matching what colour theme they are having on the day.
I have one I was given when I bought my show cob which I love and my daughter has done one for her friend after she had to have her best friend PTS.

If you don't paint it you'll need to varnish it or I think it will go rusty. I think ribbons matching the colours the birdie and bridesmaids are wearing or having I. The flowers would look nice, you could weave them in and out the nail holes then put a loop over the tip on each side to ensure it says upright when the birdie holds it by the ribbon handle.

Think the colour theme the others have mentioned is good.

Funnily enough I've just found some old horseshoes and have painted them with black hammerite paint to stop them going rusty. One of them is Sam's that I've kept (he's now barefoot), I was going to tie a coloured ribbon through one of the others to give to a friend as a housewarming present. The others I was thinking of setting in mortar in the garden where I need to do some running repairs!
I like the idea the others have had of using bridal colour coordinated ribbons in yours.
I once went to an event once where table helium balloons were weighted down with horseshoes.
The yard I'm at has plant pot holders made of horseshoes welded together, the gate is made similarly.

There is no colour theme(arghhh)to this wedding as it is in the registry office, it's all very informal so I'm told lol I'm trying to find out Beth favourite colour Heather you're right it will rust if I don't paint it, I'll have to find the metal primer lol

I did this for my friend's wedding in the summer White hammerite is more gloopy than the others and harder to use - the metallic ones like silver and gold go on much more easily! I used acrylic paint and it went on ok! Did a lot of them when I worked for the Canal & River Trust doing traditional canal art in workshops.. Takes a bit of practising though!
