Sad news today. Our Dutch champion Bonfire has been PTS. Our multiple world champion dressage Anky van Grunsven has owned him since she was 17. She was fortunate enough to be the human companion of this Olympian legend for 27.5 yrs.
Bonfire was 30 yrs old.

I do, Cassey, and had heard Anky had lost him, just wasn't online last night to see your post. He was a ground-breaking horse, she must be totally gutted.
I remember a friend showing me footage of them some years ago and it was the first time I realised you could do dressage to music!

Yes of course I know him - a true legend and a sad loss! I've got old videos of him and Anky doing their dressage to music. A real inspiration. In fact it was these early videos which inspired me to have a go at it myself - at a MUCH lower level of course!

I know of him too. 30 is a great age for a horse and I know she will be gutted, but she obviously had a wonderful companion for many, many years. A very famous horse - RIP

I don't have the heart to come to this section usually, but yes, I know Bonfire too and remember his performances well. I agree, he was a groundbreaking horse, getting more people involved and making dressage exciting. Anky must be devastated.
RIP Bonfire.... you will never be forgotten.

He was possibly one of the first horses I saw do Freestyle - amazing. I can still remember the music he danced to, and it still brings a lump to my throast, he just 'got it'. He brought emotion to freestyle.
30 is a great age for a big bred horse like that. Doesn't make it any easier though.
The video 'Dancing With Bonfire' is wonderful.
