Any recommendations for which brand of waterproof chaps for winter riding you like the best? Or overtrousers with a non-slip bum Thanks xx Eta - full chaps, not short ones.

I prefer waterproof trousers to chaps - don't like the feeling of an exposed bum in chaps. Must check which make mine are.

I have Harry Hall full chaps with a fleece lining, mine are dark blue with a fluorescent yellow stripe down the side ideal for hacking on dull winter days, but they also come in plain blue. I love them , they are so warm I wore them all the time last winter, mucking out, poo picking, cycling the 1/2 mile to the horses and dog walking as well as riding. They are lovely to ride in and not at all slippery as I feared they might be, the only down side is the zips tend to come undone a little at the top when walking in them after a while. Pam has a point about the exposed bum, when it rains hard the wet does seem to run down the back of the saddle resulting in a wet bum if I'm wearing a short jacket that doesn't cover the back of the saddle

if it helps......I prefer chaps as they're a bit snugger fitting round the leg, whereas trousers seem to have more 'flappage' which I find irritating (and less flattering!). I also prefer to have more contact with the saddle if I'm riding. But then I'm not outside ALL day, just a couple of hours, if I was going to be doing yard jobs for hours then trousers would keep you drier.

I have padded over trousers. I loved my ones with a sticky bum seat but they wore out and I k ow have a Musto set. They keep me toasty warm in minus 'HOW MUCH!' weather and very dry. I muck out and ride in them so do wear them for hours at a time. This set don't have a sticky bum which is but they do have shaped knees for riding. This means they fit closer to the leg which is better but not so close that I lose the layer of warmed trapped air between my breeches clad legs and the over trousers. I'm not a fan of chaps as I get cold in them and the rain leaks down of the saddle and I end up with a cold and wet lower back and bum.

I don't think I fancy wet knickers, lol, so I'll probably concentrate the search on over-trousers rather than chaps. I have several pairs of hiking over-trousers, but really want to find a pair specifically made for riding with a non-slip bum. A non-horsey friend has suggested motorcycle trousers, so I'm busy googling them aswell now

I've got a pair of those German ones and also a pair of the Rambo ones. I tend to use the Rambo ones more because the German ones are too hot most of the time!

....the German ones are too hot most of the time! Thanks Pam, that's convinced me. I'm going to get a pair of the German ones. I feel the cold (rubbishy thyroid), so if they're too hot for you, I'll take that as a great recommendation ...and having now looked at the prices of the Musto overtrousers, these seem like good value. Just got to work out the sizes. It's testing my 'O'level german, and the automatic Bing Translator was dire!!!

I have just purchased some padded and waterproof chaps from a local woman who makes them herself. She does them in Forest Green colour or Fluorescent Yellow. As it has just got warm again, I have not actually tried them out yet, but various friends have them and they are apparently very good, and last for years.
I have leaflets with photos on them, but have not yet managed to post any photos on here. Price is £25, presumably postage will be extra.
If anyone is interested I will pass on details to Anna.
