Can I ask your views and experiences? I'd like to try phoebe on one to get her more on the bit. She's in a Pelham which she goes well in. I know shires do a sweet iron Pelham. My theory is that given the dales motivation by food, a bit with s good taste could get her more 'engaged'.

I like sweet iron bits Prince was ridden in one, give it a go. I've only got sweet iron snaffles or french links or I would have said you could borrow one to try
Oh I've got a western curb bit as well lol

I've used a loose ring snaffle in Sweet Iron - it was one of the many bits I tried to get Doris going in rather than the mullen mouth pelham she has always worn (and I've tried lots) I don't think you could get a sweet iron pelham back then. I know the bits has a lot to do with it - but don't forget to get the impulsion before you collect (sorry you probably already know this)

I don't use them as I'm not convinced that putting a rusty piece of metal in their mouths is a good idea. It promotes salivation due to an electrochemical reaction which also doesn't seem terribly comfortable to me.
I can understand they give good control due to the weird feeling or discomfort they produce but it's not something I feel comfortable using.

They don't get really rusty Heather - well at least ours didn't, I don't think that Prince would have gone so well in it if it had caused him discomfort or had a wierd feeling, as you know he could be very opinionated when he wanted to be I thought that the horses liked the taste of the sweet iron
