yes we use combos. I usually do a running plait with the mane otherwise it can get matted up.

I spray diluted mega-tek on Georges mane 2 to 3 times a week. It helps keep it strong.

Yes, we use them. We always use combo rugs with no seam in at the wither though and it doesn't seem to bother the manes.

Only one of mine is clipped, so rugs are a novelty for me, but I am using an Axiom combo and a Weatherbeeta with a removable neck, and so far, so good

Blossom used to be the Queen of Blankets and neck covers when she was growing up in Missouri. She used a Hug rug and neck cover. It never rubbed her mane. In fact, she grew lovely mane when she had her blankets on. ...editing to say we were frequently far below freezing in Missouri with very bad weather conditions. Where we live now on the Oregon coast, Blossom's only needed her lightweight for a few nights, and certainly not the neck cover. The neck cover retains a lot of heat for them, so be careful that the pony actually needs the extra warmth. If they get too hot, they might start rubbing in an attempt to remove the blanket/neck cover.

don't rug our dales but have to the beautiful but wimpy warmblood we have! she also has a fine mane which if not careful can be missing a chunk where the neck cover ends though i think dales manes will not be as vulnerable,no other probs tho

Thanks for the info folks, we use lightweight turnouts to keep the mud off, and though maybe a combo would make life easier Have now purchased one so will see how we get on with it.

I don't use neck covers becuase I heard of a horse being strangled when one twisted round - I don't know the ins and outs but it was an experienced person and the rug would have fitted well - put me right off though!
I always think they lose more heat through the big muscles rather than the neck, and mine all seem happy enough with standard rugs. Lady's goes a littel way up her neck but not far.
