I very much doubt it unless you trim the tail a lot. I often take an inch or two off the bottom to prevent the pony standing on it and pulling out chunks, and have never had a judge comment on it.
Also in the winter I trim them a little higher just to stop too much mud getting in the tail. Dales tails grow so quickly that within a month it is not noticeable anyway!

I suppose it would depend if it was bang straight and just below the hocks which would just look daft on a dales IMO.
gentle trimming /natural shape would be fine
