Well done, that sounds a really good start, I agree with Julie about the hat, you only get one head.

Day Three Well, Pam came over to help today which meant I got a few more photos as Joe could be camera man. Tacked up with saddle and long lines as per yesterday. Julie, notice baler twine and hard hat! Went straight to paddock with Pam leading and me on long lines. When we got to the paddock we had a few little upsets as he had someone different leading him and he needed to keep looking at Joe running about in the paddock taking photos! Nothing too bad though and I think he is starting to get the hang of left and right. He's very good at stand and walk on (apart from when he wants to look at Joe)! We then came back to the yard and on the advice of Claire Dale, I popped on him the last few steps to his tie up point! Claire told me he would find the long reining much more difficult than me getting on him and that I should start off with small distances straight away. In the event, he was totally laid back and chilled about it. (I have to admit Julie, that the fact I knew I was getting on him later was the main reason I wore my hat!)

Day Four Tacked up quickly and straight to paddock , me on long reins and Joe leading. After a few minutes in paddock I dispensed with Joe leading and took full control on long lines. Despite my rustiness at long reining, Penley was an absolute star and seemed to get the hang of left and right very quickly. Very quick at standing and walking on to command too. When we went back to yard, I took long reins off, put ordinary reins on, sat on him without much preamble at all and took him to tie up point, and actually managed to steer him a step or two away from it in another direction before dismounting. So pleased! I'm still grinning!

Day Five
Not such a good day. Yours truly seriously messed up!
Tacked up and walked to paddock, Joe leading, me on long reins, no problem.
Entered paddock. Stupid mistake number one. Dispensed with Joe straight away as Penley so good yesterday.
Everything went OK for a while then Penley threw a strop and got away from me. Stood in corner by gate.
Stupid mistake number 2. Carried on without Joe. All ok for a while then Penley got away again and stood in corner by gate.
Stupid, extremely stupid mistake number 3,STILL carried on by myself! What the bloody hell was I thinking of?
Penley does the same and I eventually learn, hook Joe up and carry on without further incident.
Still got on for a little sit on but not so relaxed.
Inspected Penley's mouth and some very small cracks in corners of lips.
I am sooooo cross with myself! I think I need sectioning today!
