I'm training to be an RDA able-bodied whip, where I have to drive Coachman all the time and not (like I've driven most of my life) holding one rein in each hand, riding style.
I am having lessons from a very highly qualified and experienced person, but am travelling over 2 hours each way, so cannot go more than once a week. We no longer have a driving pony, so I can't get any practice at home, although I do the best I can on a reining board. This makes my progress painfully slow!
Is there anyone closer with a driving pony who would allow me to do some practice, or have any other suggestions?

you could come here Maggie, but its not that much nearer, maybe 1.5 hrs - could drag Tinker out of the field for you!
Just thought, what about the lady who does endurance in Cumbria, doesn't her hubby drive or have I just made that up! Anna has Annie who drives (if she's not being a mum)?

Thanks Alison, but you're right, it wouldn't be much closer!

Maggie
I'm guessing your RDA centre doesn't have a driving pony you can practice with then? Have you tried the BDS in case they have a local club that you could join and get practice that way?

Hurrah, problem solved, at least for the next 5 months. The RDA Group I've been driving with has closed for the winter, so my instructor (who is also an RDA Whip) has arranged for me to have my favorite driving horse on loan until April. [img style="max-width:100%;" src=" Merlin arrived on Tuesday, so he's had a few days to settle. We had our first drive out this morning, it was wonderful and he is gorgeous! This is Merlin. He's a 15hh Trotter (Standardbred) x Cob Merlin by maidendale59, on Flickr He's fast (was road raced before his RDA life!), but very light in hand and responsive.
