Mike I intend to do a bit of everything with her in the bridle, including showing at local level, it does look very smart on her and really suits her head I think. The only thing I think spoils the clean lines for showing and dressage is the D ring on the noseband which can be used for lunging, but you can get the competition version which doesn't have this and therefore looks even smarter. This however does not come with the bitless attachments which I wanted.
It certainly doesn't look lightweight on her, I'll let you know how we get on with it when I start riding her again in December, she has never totally settled in a bit, I've tried lots of different options, but she tends to just go round with her mouth open with any contact and I don't think it's the answer to just strap her mouth shut with a tight drop noseband.
The Micklem does have the noseband under the bit but it's not tight and they can still open their mouth, also it comes with bit clips which hold the bit off the tongue and puts some pressure onto the noseband and the poll when a contact is taken up, so hopefully she will accept the contact better. If not I'm going to try her bitless, don't know about showing etc in a bitless bridle though, I know its not allowed in affiliated dressage but we won't be competing at that level.
