They tend to be very territorial, so you'll only see one in an area unless it's the summer breeding season. Great blues are ones that mate for life, and I was told Gronk's already lost his mate, but he does leave for the summer. I don't know if he goes off to breed or if he simply goes to a different summertime feeding place, but he comes back around Sept/Oct.
Late this spring I did see a pair flying overhead, but it was a strange pair, I didn't recognize them and they didn't stop on the farm. So far, they've been the only extras I've seen here, but I do see them as we drive up and down the coast
