Hi, I have a 4 year old dales who is just broken but considering sending him away after I turn him away for winter. I have heard that Brian Williams and Lewis fuller in Cumbria are good and specialise in dales and fells. Does anyone know of anyone they would recommend for this preferably near the south east? Thank you in advance. Any suggestions welcome.

What do you want to do with your youngster? Where are you based?
Lots of good people about, and probably best to go by word of mouth with people near you. I had fantastic help from a woman who lives near me (north Beds). However, do not rush a youngster - little intense sessions of schooling followed by a lot of hacking and chilling in the field has always worked for me.

Yes, I agree with the above post. If you find some one local to you, you will be able to have closer involvement which will be more beneficial to you. Where abouts are you?

I also agree, when I wanted someone to school my young mare I found a yard specialising in natives about 10 miles away from me in Suffolk and I was able to watch her progress each week and ride her there before she came home. They concentrated on getting her as solid as possible for me to ride after an accident and did a good job, the head instructor also continued to come to me to give me lessons and support once she was home.
I also agree with Kate about not rushing a youngster and think they really benefit from lots of hacking and keeping the schooling sessions short, you can do a lot of schooling out hacking.
Good luck

Finding someone local is best. My daughter does a good job with ponies too, automatically specialising in Dales and Fells as that is what she has grown up with, but we are in East Lancashire so perhaps not an option either

I have heard good things about Tori Aylmore in Devon- you can find her on the net, very keen on proper classical dressage and training as a remedial saddle fitter, gives lessons all around the south west and takes horses and ponies in schooling livery
