I've entered my first pleasure ride with Connie, I've had several rides in mind for our first ride but just haven't felt ready, especially as I have no one to ride with, I haven't even ridden her in company yet so I have no idea what she will be like.
Anyway after stewarding at the Holkham beach weekend on Sunday (which I really wanted to do but didn't dare this year) and realising what I was missing, I decided to take the bull by the horns and enter Iceni EGB L plate ride on 5th July, I've entered the 10 mile route and have requested an escort so I'm not on my own the first time I take her.
I now have 5 weeks to increase the length of our rides and hopefully get in at least a few rides in company in preparation, and try not to stress about it. It's a forest ride so should be lovely with good going for her feet, she's still not happy on stony ground.
If it goes well I shall have to pluck up the courage to take her to the next ones on my own, otherwise I just won't get to do any, I've had various offers of people to ride with but all have fallen through for one reason or another, lame horses, injured riders etc.
I'm really looking forward to it but also feel very nervous.

That's great news, and lovely they pair people up if needed. Looking forward to hearing how much fun you had!

That's good they are able to team you up with another rider. Let us know how it goes, I'm sure you will have a great time.

Well done entering! Once you've got this one under your belt I'm sure you will feel more confident. Certainly the EGB rides will always find you some one to ride with and probably the smaller pleasure rides too if you contact the organiser in advance. Have fun building up your milage - it's nice to have an aim with hacking.
