The last few weeks I've noticed him standing in the same place, he does wander off to graze but then he's back at the bottom of the field again . I've not ridden for ages as my vertigo is playing up AND my back went off the other day.. And I must admit to not being able to go to see him everyday..am I answering my own question could he be missing me ! I brought him up tonight and tacked him up after a nice groom and a bit of bait, Richy said he was really slow, I know he's not fit but he's usually a bit faster than that. He's in now and I will try to go for a little ride in the morning, He looks down and I feel so sad whe I look at him

Aww poor Scout. I am sure ponies can get depressed and he might be missing his routine with you. Harvey gets very grumpy, bolshy and irritable when he's not in regular work. In fact he's just had an easy couple of weeks schooling wise and has been bullying poor Lily so I took him to a SJ practice session and he's a different pony. He has been slower than normal lately but I've put it down to the weather and the grass finally coming through. Could that be the case with Scout? Harvey often stands in the field for hours with his head hanging down looking depressed but that is normal for him. Just his energy saving mode The other thing to be aware of is he might be feeling a bit achey if not getting the exercise he usually does or might be under the weather for some other reason. I say that because strangles is rife in our area at the moment so I am keeping a close eye on all of mine.

I left him in last night and gave him a nice feed this morning, he seems more smiley ! I have noticed he's been a bit stiffer lately.. I need to do more, I was thinking of moving him to another field as he really doesn't like the horse he is grazing with. They used to be separate but the girl took the fences down and the other horse, being a mare can now pick on him... He used to stand just far enough away on the other side of the fence and she couldn't reach to bite him... It was comical to watch x Thanks Pam I will keep an eye on him x

Bird always very disappointed if other ponies are getting attention without him and stares mournfully waiting to be acknowledged (or he use too if he was in the stable rattles his door now he knows he isn't allowed to do that he stares pointed not rattling his door until he's told how good he is for being quiet) I think your right and he misses you shame about his companion though is their someone he can live with who's nicer to him? Glad he's happier this morning.

Connie has been slower than usual the last few days as well, I think it's the weather very humid and quite hot with lots of horse flies, I feel slower too.
Perhaps he's missing his routine with you, I do think horses like to be active, shame he doesn't get on with his companion, could you not put the fence back up?
Hope he feels like his old self again soon, good idea to keep a close eye on him in case he's coming down with something.
Cheer up Scout

I was just about to suggest that you rule out a physical problem first Valerie, but then read further down that you have now discovered that he is lame, so I think you've probably found the source of his woes Hopefully it's nothing serious and he'll pick up very soon xxx

the vet has been, can't rule out an abscess.. that will need an X-ray if he doesn't improve in a week, she thought he had a bit of heat in his front right and he could have a bit of arthritis he is getting on a bit x she didn't think he had laminitis tho. She left some bute and another visit for next week if no improvement x she said he was lovely too

Oh bless, I'm so glad you got to the source of his problem. I was going to suggest the mare might also be compounding the problem. If he wasn't able to get away from her bullying on top of the lameness, and not getting to see you = unhappy Scout. He already looks so much happier in his stable Best wishes for a full healing Scout
