I use option A always, but sometimes I long rein in a circle with two reins for a change! I wouldnt dare lunge either of ours without the extra control.

I would start a horse young lunging through the ring onto the noseband or headcollar. I then usually put it over the poll for first few minutes, then when settled onto inside bit ring as lunging is replicating the inside rein aid. I often have an outside second rein. Or course if you have side reins this gives the outside rein support and you can work inside leg into outside hand whilst softening the poll. Depends how well schooled your pony is though.
