No doubt, I'm in suspenders wondering how it went! LOL..I remember my first lesson all too well! Andy, bless his heart, ever so slowly watched me as he stood on the end of my boot Luckily for me I saw what he was about to do and scrunched my toes out of the way, so all he was stood on was my boot. LOL, thought my instructor was going to have kittens!!! I was just mad, trying to get him off my boot. Ahhh, bless though, Andy really was a true schoolmaster from the get go.

I'm sure it will be! Instructors tend to be ultra chosey when it comes to the first horse. Can't wait to hear how it goes

Glad you enjoyed it and are going to continue! I think the early stages are hard and you seem to be making very little progress but when you look back you can see how much you have come on.
Are you staying with the same riding school but a different instructor or trying a different school? It will be nice for you to compare notes with Ali!

Bravo!!! Soooo glad you enjoyed it too I'm surprised your instructor let you trot, I was made to walk for ages, working on body positioning and steering/control. I thought trot would be a lot more fun, but boy its not. it seems weird how much you need to use your leg muscles I used to spit and sputter over when the 'calories burned/activities' charts first came out in the 70s/80s ~ and horseback riding was towards the bottom. Only the horse does the work, you just sit there Clearly someone who's never been on a horse wrote that!!! Have fun with your next lesson

Stick at it and you'll soon build up the right muscles. Good luck with your Duke of Edinburgh silver award!

Can someone explain to me about the Duke of Edinburgh silver medal?? I'm in the US, so I've never heard of it. LOL....do take it slowly, and yes, you'll build up those leg muscles in no time.

the Duke of Edinburgh is an award you do in 3 stages, bronze, silver and gold, you can go trecking, biking or horse riding to certain points on a map. you have to be trained me first aid and map reading to go on this. once you have completed the bronze award then you move on the silver then gold you have to hike a certain path in your map then camp and get set up without any support from staff and make your way back.. its good but it killed me to it i was in constant pain for about 15 hours... its a good way to loose weight lol..

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is more than just the expedition though. There are other parts to it and participants have to complete all of them to get the award. The level of achievement goes up, the higher the award. Here's the website Debbie - all you need to know!! www.theaward.org/I did mine many, many years ago and it was great fun, and also a lot of hard work!!
