Well, there's others on here with far more experience and expertise than me but she looks a similar shape to Rose if not as well 'sprung' trhough the ribs. It looks as if she's lighter on her hips and bum than during the summer and in the third picture down her ribcage does look a little 'rounder' from and more 'sprung'. She's also got a good curve on her belly from behind her elbows and then up and into a 'tuck up' bit on front of her haunches. I don't mean 'tucked up' as in underweight but just that it looks like she has extra depth from about behind her girthline to around two thirds of the way back from her elbows. This is also where Rose is carrying. When I stroke Rose down her side I can feel the firmness of her ribcage but she then has a definite extra round softer belly bit which comes out sideways more than her ribs do. She also carries her weight more to one side. Not sure whether it's becasue she's not standing square in picture one but she does seem larger on the right than the left. On picture four the belly area I'm talking about looks a slightly different hair/colour pattern. If you look at the picture of the pregnant mare at www.flickr.com/photos/minuet/9666767/the belly area I'm talking about is shown by a diagonal pale bay area beneath the dapples. This one shows it much more www.flickr.com/photos/alymay/100171544/Come on everyone else - what do you all think?

I would not be suprised if she was carrying after you were told last year she wasn't.
I know of two cases where the mare was supposed to be empty even after vet checks and one was even scanned and both produced lovely foals.
Can you work out how far off she maybe, it wasn't until I actually saw Moo's belly move that I really knew she was still in foal as opposed to just fat.

I think if she was it would be due about the end of June begin July, she ran with the stallion up til about the 8th of August scanned not in foal at the end of July

I would not be suprised if she was carrying after you were told last year she wasn't. Can you work out how far off she maybe, To be fair to my vet here Leia was scanned as not in foal at the end of July. She then spent a further two weeks with the stallion and came into rampaging season just before she went home. It looked as if he may have caught her (she wouldn't stand for him at first but he got better at catching her as the summer went on) and she then went home so she's had no vet scans or tests to see whether this last covering period was a success or not. Hence the not knowing. If she got caught on this last covering period she'll be due sometime between 20th June and 20th July. She'll be roughly 230 days or around 7.5 months pregnant.

These are rgeat picutres, big thanks for laoding and linking to them. Rose looks similar to Misty in her picutre with six weeks to go. Theoretically Rose has 8 weeks to go. I think the difference I've noticed between her being pregnant and just fat is that her shoulder blade is easily felt, her point of hip is easily found, if you press hard you can feel ribs as they've become more sprung as the pregnancy progresses and she isn't at all cresty and has no fat bads behind her shoulder blades. The only bit of her that's fat is her belly The belly is also very squidgy and soft rather than like hard fat. I've had to put Rose's feed up this week as she has been droppping weight very gradually through the pregancy. I'm condition scoring rather than relying on a weight tape as the latter just shows her as fat where the condition scoring shows her as a nicely correct. She's just about right at the moment but was showing signs of being really hungry at bucket feeding time. I've put her protein levels up and she's settled back down again and is holding her weight well.

Heather, I wasn't putting your lovely vet down just saying that she was scaned not in foal at the end of July, and I didn't get her scaned again at home as she appeared to come into season when she would have been due just after she came home, plus I'm sure she's been in season since but she is usually very quiet in her seasons. I really don't think she is in foal Have you got any recent pics of Rose for us to compare shapes to plus I'd love to see some pics of Rose and her bump

Whoo hoo so there is a chance then.
Moo lived out with her husband for 5 weeks so that covered two seasons, I didn't have her scanned before she left as I felt nature would have done its stuff and if it hadn't then never mind.
Most of the way through her pregnancy Moo still acted as if she came into season, squealing and squirting, apparently some mares do.

Oh it'sa shame she won't have her baby til the end of June after we've been.... then again, probably no bad thing or we would have a stowaway in the box on the way home!!
Fingers crossed for her Zelda - and for Rose too Heather!
One day, I'll have my mare.....

Fingers crossed here too....you never know, she might be in foal yet. Has Leia foaled before, Zelda? Sorry - I should know but can't find the right file in my memory LOL.
Poor girlies in the pics from Moo and Rose - gosh they're big and heavy. I remember how it feels! LOL
