Our vets still not 50% sure about the vaccs. I know someones horse was vaccinated and got strangles a week later, there from round near me aswell. Aslong as iuts contained then hopefully they wont get it. My old horse got it when he was 3 and nearly died, but luckily we caught it early and out of a yard of over 100 horses he was the only one to have it. Hope he doesnt get it though x

We had Buzz vaccinated due to going out and competing quite alot. 1st jab he had a bit of a reaction to, he got shivers in his muscles, no swelling of lip though. 2nd he was fine, they then recommend every 3 - 6 months depending on there risk i.e do they go out competing around the country alot, if I remember the jab was about £24.00 and with our vet if there were more than 3 of us you didn't get charged a call out. Fingers x that he doesn't get it. I also seem to remember that the more horses on your yard get done the more affective it is.

I hope Bob avoids this, Bev. I've never used the vaccination. I can't stand the thought of the vet injecting my horses lips with it. Sabina was likely kill him and I'm not sure the others wouldn't attempt it too!

Thanks for advise and concerns everyone, Bobs is still his perky self and showing no signs so I think he will be ok. I will relax a bit more next week when the incubation period is up. He is in his stable 24/7 now and just has a walk out at night. Im going to ride this weekend as his ringworm has more or less dissapeared too. We are going to wait until Spring and have the vaccinations done, she wants all horses vaccinated and we have been quoted £15.00 per injection, twice yearly so that sounds good as its quite cheap. Im not looking forward to him having his lip injected! it sounds so painful. Anyway, fingers crossed he is ok!

Oh good, glad to hear Bobs is OK and has avoided coming down with strangles. Yes, that does sound a very reasonable price. Can't they numb the lip first before injecting? It does sound painful.
