The Bridlework book does have quite a bit on driving bridles (to my surprise!) and goes through making a Shetland one quite well, so will adapt it to a non blinkered one (heaven forbid that anyone would make one of those!!!) and have a go.
I'm now the proud owner of a Bennington Intro fingers crossed as I've still to pick it up but have agreed a sale (see your rained off thread, thank you!).
Now looking for synthetic harness!

LOL..... I'm sure if any pony could, it would be a dales! Pleased as punch you've gotten your Bennington Although I'd be a little doubtful putting Isaac to it Sounds like he's got a good start under his belt, though. Any chance you might be able to take photos of the driving bridle you end up making? I think its fascinating that you do the leatherwork, and would love to see pics.

Pics no problem, but don't hold your breath Debbie! Isaac is a sweetie, I think you all have him mis-construed! His only problem is rushing to do the thing you want without listening first or engaging his brain!! LOL! Typical bloke! LOL! Amy is more of an eff-off, ........ oh well, ......... if I must! Except when driving and then she's just perfect!! Need a bit more standing still practice though! Choc just can't see the point, and Pants is over the horizon then has a think, but he is a Welshie x Arab, ie. mad as a box of frogs!!!!

;D I'm sure Isaac's a love. I've gotten to be a wuss the older I get. Actually its just because I have troubles with my kidneys and can't move as well as I did as a teen. If I could, I would have been able to stay on Lady Bear last year as she kept stepping out from under me I think with driving I'm even moreso of a coward because when it comes to riding, you've just got to get clear of the horse. If something goes amiss with driving, you've got to get clear of the horse and cart. Hmmmm....maybe its just my imagination that's the problem?? Too much of it! ;D Loved the description of your gang! Blossom's the sort that will hover at your shoulder if you're doing something you'd rather not want her involved in. But ask her to do something, and she's like a kid that's been asked for a chore ~ deaf and blind, and usually off to the other end of the field given half a chance, lol ;D

HOw excting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh please post pics on here preferably with Amy trying it on. SOunds like you got a great deal and the perfect vehicle. Sad to hear the lady's story but at least the vehicle will be used now. I love this site we can live vicariously ( ) through others shopping!! I have had one of these for four years and it has taken me everywhere including one reserve champ in show. They really are an asset and will last much longer than other makes. Roll on the synthetic harness. Modelling photos please.

P.S Get Issaac going single and then pop him in as a pair with Amy. That way stoic Amy will sort him out give him confidence and you will always have to go at her pace! Oh a pair would be so exciting you will probabbly beat me to it!!

Hopefully Steve will collect it for me on Thursday if it all goes in his car as he is out that way then, otherwise it will be a second trip at the weekend. It might be a train weekend unless I'm lucky but will get some piccies asap.
How differently can pairs be height-wise? Amy's about 13.2 and Wiz 14hh? Would they go together and would I need another cart or can I convert the Benni?? That also means I'll need to sets of harness as well! Looks like I'll have to go back to pole dancing!!!! LOL!!

Height wize they would be fine. The main thing is to find two animals who are similar in paces as this makes them easier to drive as a pair. I have driven a chalk and cheese pair and it is challenging and not very social!! That said almost all horses love to work together and once you drive a pair you never want to do singles again. When you look at harness ask them it they do a singles set that converts to a pair, I think Zilco does this and will save you having to buy two sets of harness. You would need a four wheeler to do pairs and need some professional help to start them. Also you need to be happy driving a single in a four wheeler first. ALternatively you could skip straight to tandems (one horse infront of the other) which you do in a two wheeler. This is considered the second most difficult kind of driving you can try asn normally you progress onto it between pairs and teams. You need to talk to your instructor as I am out of my depth there althoug I hope to get going with it all next year or the year after. I wouldn't worry about it right now and you will always use your two wheeler no matter what as it is recomended to school each horse individually as well as a pair. I'm sure there will be plenty of time to save for the next vehicle while you get Isaac and Amy experienced. So don't fill out the application form for pole dancing yet!!!

I'm afraid in my case, I'd get paid to keep well away from the pole Its been veeery interesting reading about the differences in the pairs, tandem and singles.
