I had the hardest time of all parting with my Ginger So I know exactly how you feel about Boris. Sadly I was really worried about my neighbors, and my friend had 40 acres for Ginger with 11 girlies to roam about with. My friend and his wife could easily see how much he meant to me, and took very good care of him for me. When I was looking into this crowing business, I came across something called 'decrowing' whereby the vet does something to the rooster's vocal chords. It seemed the ultimate solution, but when I phoned round the vets they all point blank said No. I live in a practical farming community, though. So here its a matter of 'kill the one, or kill the whole flock?'. No help at all. The covered cat basket may very well work, much like the towels thrown over parrot cages. However, I've read even nighttime noises will cause them to crow. Even without waking the rooster! LOL If you're worried about your neighbors and the noise, can you perhaps go round and ask if he's been bothering them at all? You may be surprised, some of your neighbors may actually find the crowing soothing, and may a bit of nostalgia. There's always the market to give a try if nothing else. And I do agree with the others, follow your heart on this one. A chicken is no less a pet than any other animal

love and hugs such a awful time when your needin to part with an animal, but i would agree with the girls the vets do deal with lots of unusual beasties these days, i used to keep 2 goats and they used to go in the back of the car to the vets xx best of luck am sure youll do the right thing for poor boris xxx

That's great news! Maybe he doesn't have to be nasty now because he is feeling secure with you. I'm really pleased it is working out.

They do tame down quickly with daily handling. I think they love all the fussing. Long may the quiet last!!!

bit of bad news.. he flew at me this morning, i was shooing all 3 of them down the garden as he was crowing when i got in from work. no chances for him now as i really dont want him doing it to johnathan.
im a bit gutted to say but Darren is taking him to market on satuarday. i just cant take the chance of him attacking johnathan..
feeling really upset!!

Whoops!!! I take it he was trying to attack, Row? Yes, you're right, if he's doing that now, its only a matter of time before he has a go at Johnathan. Take heart, at market he may very well find himself a companion

I'm very sorry, Row. I know how hard this must be for you but it is for the best. Tbh, even without the attacking, he would have started crowing with a vengence come the longer days and you would have been even more attatched to him by then so it would have been even harder to part with him. Fingers crossed he finds himself a nice home.
