I'm now the proud grandmum of 9 springer puppies. 'Missed's due date wasn't until yesterday, but on thursday she started nesting and looking like she was getting close. Unfortunately by friday evening she still hadn't progressed and her temperature was dropping rapidly. We took her into the vets and they ran a blood test, discovering her calcium levels had dropped, which was probably why she wasn't starting to contract. Because she was going downhill so quickly they performed a caesarian at 10pm. She had 9 puppies, all pretty large. A couple of them were slow to start breathing, but were soon starting to call for their mum. Missed took a while to come round from the anaesthetic and her temperature was still pretty low. But by Saturday morning she was doing a lot better and starting to show interest in her puppies. Now 4 days old, all 9 puppies are going strong and Missed is really enjoying motherhood. Just a couple of pictures for now...

Oh they are adorable! They do look quite a size for just 4 days old - I bet Mum is relieved she doesn't have to carry them around any more!
I'm so glad it went well in the end. It must have been quite a scare for you both. Missed is looking very well and happy with her brood, isn't she?

AAAWWWW, how cute, please, please keep post photos. It is stressful having a litter, but so much fun when they get a little older.
